I was the design lead but also hands on running workshops and creating future products. Part of the job involved working with the global HSBC design communities and sapient @ WeWorks in London giving creative direction, the other half working on new releases for the new Kinetic Business App and website. Delivering to 2-week sprints in a multidisciplinary team of UX, UI, Motion, and frontend, we designed and tested as one team, working closely with key stakeholders and owning the design from start to finish.

The HSBC Kinetic app was developed in response to significant research by our team to create a truly ground-breaking Business Banking App. We asked small business owners what they wanted from their bank, then we took their insights and set out to create an app that makes business banking simpler, relevant and more intuitive.

UX THINKING

With a large organisation like HSBC, running workshops with the right stakeholders was something we needed to make sure was on point. We also invited local business owners to many working sessions to add actual outside influence. We listened and we hit the road running with our wireframing due to the amount of detailed information we gained from our personas.

CREATING A DESIGN SYSTEM

One of the core aspects of this project was to create a robust design system for the HSBC Kinetic product, specifically producing this within Sketch and outputting core journeys in Invision. We applied HSBC branding but also challenged this as this application is for the future of business banking, taking into account how Monzo and Starling online banks use branding and UX to revolutionise business banking.

UNIVERSAL COMPONENTS

We expanded the design system to not only work on desktop, tablet and mobile, but to also create assets for marketing and the main HSBC global site. This was an extra push from the team, to implement all the new Kinetic branding across the whole of HSBC Business.

MOBILE APP

The main ask was to design a mobile app that not only competed with online banks such as Monzo and starling, but to be the champion in business banking. Working with Sapients team we brought the app to life, building a fully functional prototype, to a fully developed app.

WEBSITE

Bringing all the great work the team produced on the app, we needed to create a powerful but simplistic website to promote the product. As this was aimed for the smaller businesses, the look and feel needed to stay away from the big corporate style.

Adding motion and effects to imagery brought the site to life, creating a more welcoming site.
